The festival that started back over 60 years ago with a handful of guests has grown into one of Ireland’s biggest annual festivals. Recognised internationally, it gets well over 22,000 visitors attending each year, who have gleefully downed tons of the famous native Galway Oysters. Now it’s your turn to visit!

Visit this hugely enjoyable festival which is held each year on the last weekend in September to celebrate Galway’s rich annual oyster harvest. People come from far and wide to enjoy the delicious oysters at the festival and the great weekend of live music and fun.

The weekend festival will blend together a mixture of food, fun, music entertainment and of course world class Galway oysters.

Some festival highlights include the World Oyster Opening Championships, where oyster openers from all over the world compete for the coveted titles. Also, the masquerade ball where masked revellers will dance the night away. And of course, the Seafood trails serving up some of the best locally sourced seafood.
